June 2020 Fishing Report
July 1, 2020Well May 2020 will go down as another fantastic month on the water. With the now global pandemic COVID-19 we are still in a situation of self isolation and business is being closed. That being said time on the water by myself and family proved yet again that are local waters of Vancouver are bountiful with life in so many capacities. The Fraser River started to rise with the mountains releasing the nutrient rich run off into the ocean clouding the waters that have been clear for the last four months. The gear needed to change in response to the watercolour and the temperatures rise. The same patterns that were working In April continued to be successful in May with one particular spoon called the “party girl” Boy was she hot LOL. Prawning has definitely slowed down, I’m not sure if it’s because of the added pressure with not being able to retain chinook salmon and anglers going out in purchasing prawn gear, but they sure are few and far between. That being said the Dungeness crab fishing has been amazing to the point where traps are full and you can take your biggest four crab home for your dinner feast. It’s really been incredible you’ll have to book a trip with KingSlayer Charters when the businesses can reopen to see what I mean.
The boat got its 2nd 100 hour service of the year and the Hicksy has never been running so smooth. We added some new electronics AIS systems and all around fish hunting gear to the boat for awesomeness in the years to come
It looks as though we might be able to get back to our new normal and we will be able to open the business once again. My neck is still on the mend and I’m dealing with the headaches, it’s great for the soul to be on the water.
stay safe,
Captain Sam
